A few years ago, I went with a mate of mine to see one of our fave singers and entertainers, Beccy Cole, at her Sheilas’ Sessions at Central Coast Leagues. We knew her, of course, and Kate, but while this other chick’s name sounded familiar and so did her face, I didn’t really know who Chris E Thomas was until Beccy started saying the artists that she had backed. So, why had she spent all of those years backing up people? God knows. When she opened her mouth and that great, big, beautiful voice came out, my little mate fell off her chair and I was speechless (something that doesn’t happen very often!).
Chris E has finally come out with an album, and the last couple of years at Tamworth, she has been totally recognised, finally, for her great talent. She was nominated for best new talent this year, which might sound strange, but it was for her first album and it is a ripper. Now that she has the Monkey off her back, hopefully, we will see her produce much more.
You can see the Tassie dynamo at the King Street Brewhouse on Sunday 23 June at 2pm.
