(See Totally Biased Fan Review of Gretta’s EP, Hell’s Half Acre)
I keep missing Gretta LIVE. We keep crossing paths, by seconds. We will get there eventually. Gretta’s EP, Hell’s Half Acre, is quite simply, superb. Gretta could match it with any International Female Artist.
Gretta made it to the final three in Toyota Starmaker this year at Tamworth. It won’t be long before she is walking up on to the stage at the TRECC at Tamworth to pick up some of those Golden Guitars.
After growing up on the Mighty Murray River, she studied Voice at University and learned violin, cello and double bass and even the bagpipes (her heritage is Celtic and German).
Harmony James, another young woman doing great things in Australian Country Music at the moment, picked a Gretta song: Unforgiven Sins, as one of the five songs which have inspired her over the years on Saturday Night Country. Gretta has gained immense respect for her music, often described as alt. Country. It is a little bit folky, a little bit Emmylou, a little bit Mary Chapin Carpenter, a lot Gretta. She is a unique talent who is gaining a lot of ground with her peers and the fans.
Her songs are deep, thought provoking and emotive. Each one is different, drawing on her many influences and her immense vocal skills.
Gretta has done the hard yards. It is now time to kick some goals.
